A Company of Fools
"Of all the books I've written-published and unpublishable-A Company of Fools is my favorite. I loved roaming around St. Luc's Abbey in my head, running through the catacombs and playing tricks on the monks. I loved getting to know Micah, Henri, and Brother Bart.
As a writer, what interests me the most is how we deal with fear, maybe because I don't always deal with it very well myself. The time of the Plague was a great testing ground for courage. People died in massive numbers, and there was fear everywhere. Some people acted like idiots but others rose to great heights of honor and compassion. This book is about both kinds of people.
I hope you enjoy reading A Company of Fools as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope also that, when you finish reading it, you will want to join me on top of a table, so that the sound of all our dancing will make the whole world laugh. Abracadabra."
